Self-Talk
There is a direct correlation between self-confidence and success. Confidence is influenced and developed not only by successful experiences and reinforcement from others, but also by positive thinking. This positive thinking comes from self-talk which can build confidence and facilitate learning and performance. Thoughts affect self-confidence, self-concept, and behavior.
Ways to use positive self-talk:
- Build confidence by using positive affirmation statements.
- Team Slogans.
- Skill acquisition by using cue words like 'up & in.'
- Attention control by using words to help focus on the present.
- Controlling effort by using phrases like 'go for it' or 'easy does it.'
- Negative thought stopping by using interrupting trigger words.
